+ Family friendly
My mother bought us an annual pass as a gift, and it has more than paid for itself! The staff is always so friendly (seriously, we have never met even a slightly grumpy person there). They have always spoken directly to our kids and patiently answered any questions they might have. They might be a little small, but they have more interactive exhibits than most of the bigger aquariums we have been to. Every time we go, there is a new thing happening. Mermaids here, face painting there. And you can even bring your own food in! Every time we visit, they have added even the littlest of improvements. It is definitely one of our happy places
- It smells bad, but that's not uncommon in places with aquatic/avian attractions.
So this place is great and definitely the strangest aquarium i have ever been too. First off, it is in a strip mall, yup, an aquarium in a strip mall. But their odd location is made up for by a ton of fun, interactive, and hands on attractions. They have open tanks where you can pet and handle sea rays, sharks, and two separate aviaries where you can fees parrots while hundreds of them land on you. It is on the small side for an aquarium, but if you have kids you have to go.
Great place for children. Small but comprehensive variety of aquatic life is featured in the many indoor tanks. Posted information is everywhere and very educational, or you can just sit with your kiddos in front of the tank of your choosing and watch the fish move through the water together. Aviary area can be fun for everyone and you can sit inside the cage to feed the birds with a keeper present. Gets super crowded on weekends, so best to visit during the week.
- Somewhat difficult to find. It's located in a strip mall in between a restaurant and a Salvation Army resale shop.
I would still recommend going just to experience what they have to offer and decide for yourself.
+/- You can buy food to feed the animals, but it's pricey.
Loved the hands on experience our granddaughter got to experience. Getting to pet and feed the fish and iguana was exciting. Another highlight was getting a private opportunity to touch their huge octopus! Being in the aviary was exceptional in that she got to touch the canaries as they would feed off her hand. It is small in square footage but HUGE in making an impression in a little girl's memory!
- It's small, poorly lit, and has a somewhat unclean look and feel to it.
Here's some details about my experience.
This aquarium is only okay compared to other places I've been like the Dallas World Aquarium and the one near South Padre Island. Even Zoos I've been to around Texas had better aquatic attractions than this place.
+ Decent prices. Students get a discount. My mom, who is a teacher, got in free.
If you're looking for an amazing experience I'd suggest another aquarium but if you're looking for a budget outing for the family this place works.
