We took our boys here for a train ride into downtown. This was our first time riding the Cap Metro Train. It was an enjoyable experience and cheap entertainment for my sons. The trains are clean and the ride is fairly smooth for a train. The ride from the Northwest P&R is about 30 minutes to downtown. The P&R itself has plenty of parking. I'm glad I don't have to commute using the train but it was good for fun.
Commuter's best option! Take the bus or the train, avoid the traffic....
The metro rail is fantastic in the Austin area! Clean, comfortable and convenient. I wish it were expanding to the west, but they can only go as far as voters allow, right. :) The only thing I marked down for was the fact they just hiked the daily ticket to 7$ . . . 1.50$ more than its been . . . that's not a little bit of a hike, thats a lot! So we'll use it less, since its combatting the cost of gas that motivates us to use it and, honestly, gas is cheaper than the train ticket now.
I work Downtown and live near Lakeline, so this is a natural choice for my daily commute. There is plenty of parking (though it's best to park on the north parking lot). There are two ticket machines near the parking area.
I wish trains ran later into the nights. Otherwise, this is a great option for getting Downtown and back again.
Trains run regularly throughout the day. Get there at least 15 minutes before your train is scheduled to leave to make sure you're in the front of the line so you can make sure to get a seat.
