We were taking on a project of flipping a house in an older part of Austin and got in way over our head. Chose Patriot Electric randomly from Google listings when I had a problem with a shorted wire somewhere in the house. The electrician took over 90 minutes attempting to track down the short, and at one point literally caused a new problem by accidentally leaving a wire in contact with the wire housing and electrifying the housing itself. That problem took a full 20 (billed to me) minutes to locate and undo.
The next time I chose a different independent who had a couple good reviews, and had a much better experience.
Ultimately, he didn't find the short, the wire was temporarily working (though I told him it frequently held for a few hours and then shorted again), so he just declared "mission accomplished" though he hadn't made any real changes, billed me, and left.
