I have had two great experiences at Ron King with Carla, who has unfortunately since left the salon. The receptionist recommended another stylist, Jasmine.
So I called Aaron. I wanted to speak to my hairdresser bc he at least treated me like a person, but no, Aaron was even more rude and snooty over the phone. His computer apparently only showed that I had gone to Ron King twice before the most recent time. But that was not the case. I had 3 previous perms, one trim and color highlights, and one trim and style. That's at least 5 that I remember. Possibly more.
BEWARE FOLKS , if you aren't the cream of the crop in Austin, you will eventually get dumped worse than a boyfriend!!!
The next day I get an email response from another staff member, Aaron I think, with the most snotty, stuck up, and rude response. He basically said because I didn't go to Ron King enough over the years, that somehow my hair got too screwed up to work with. And they couldn't help me.
This place is great! Did great blowoutfor my wife. She loves it and so do I.
Unfortunately, Jasmine cut my hair about 3 inches too short. It is blunt along the bottom and has no variation in shaping. It's extremely unflattering and dries into a triangle that sits on top of my shoulders. I'm absolutely appalled that she thought this was an appropriate cut for my hair texture and that she was recommended as a curly stylist.
But then something happened that put a bad taste in my mouth for this place for good. I had been wanting a perm for over a year, after having not had one for 3 years or so, and I missed it. So I asked for a gift card for Christmas, and then had to wait for another for my birthday in July. I had to save up money of my own as well. My hard earned money, as an overeducated and underpaid Millennial. Many of you know what I'm talking about.
Because I usually don't have much money, I wasn't able to go as often as I would have liked.
The first time didn't stick, as was usually the case bc my hair is long and very fine, so they did it again. My hairdresser mention he ordered a different product that was supposed to be better. But that one was even less effective than the first! Within 3 weeks or less, it was as if I never got a perm at all. Same ole boring straight hair. I contacted Ron King about a week after my perm about the issue. No one got back to me. 2 weeks later, I called again, no response. So I finally emailed.
I had been going to Ron King Salon for about 7 years.
I have thick curly hair and asked that Jasmine cut 3-4 inches off and replicate the gentle layers that had grown out. When I came in it was very long (below my nipples when curly). As we have not worked together before, I brought in several photos to illustrate I wanted (just below the shoulders, symmetrical layers), specified below the shoulder when curly, and shaped so that it fell evenly. I re-emphasized that she shape it so it was not like a Christmas tree and to cut it wet.
Absolutely love this place. Everyone here makes you feel like family while at the same time being extremely professional. This place is full of talented stylists. I go to Maria, who is one of them! I'm so happy I lucked into finding this salon. Every time I walk out the door, my hair looks fabulous. I highly recommend Maria and the Ron King Salon. Love it!!
I would have to wait for a birthday coupon or save up so I could get a new do or a perm. I always felt a bit out of place because it is obviously a place where wealthy, famous, and cutting edge trend people go. But that didn't seem to bother my hairdresser. And I loved his work.
No money back, not even a partial refund. And I could forget about getting my perm done correctly! Not even an apology! All that money my family and friends gave me, all my hard earned money, down the drain. I had been a steady patron at Ron King for 7 years, and that's how they treated me.
Seriously!?
I said hey, I have never been to or heard of a salon that won't do your hair until you are completely satisfied, or your money back. Shouldn't you have even higher customer service than them?? I even offered to have them cut my hair so it's easier to work with.
Then the day finally came.
My stylist Javier was amazing, but the owner (Ron King) was so terrible and pretentious on my last visit that going back is not an option. There was an injured animal on the sidewalk, and I suggested calling 311 to get someone out to help. He loudly starts mocking me to another customer, gets into a screaming match with me, and when I go back to get my parking validated- he waits for me outside and continues hurling insults to the point a passerby asked if I would like him to call the cops. Beautiful salon, great service, terrible management.
I am not a celebrity or wealthy. I cannot afford their extortionate prices all the time! The only thing I did essentially in another salon was get my hair trimmed now and then, and maybe a partial highlight in New Mexico. I was living in a different state for part of that time, so I couldn't possibly have gone to Ron King for all my hair needs.
