The prices can be high, but the materials they use are high quality and the technicians are very good. Go there knowing what you want or need, but don't be put off by the guy at the counter. You will likely leave there happy!
When you walk into Tipler's, it is half old Austin local business charm and half intimidating. It is a straight forward service shop with lamps in every corner. It probably looks exactly like it did in 1986 and you can smell aged brass and polishing compound. In that way it is really comforting. You know instantly that you are going to encounter someone who cares and knows what they are talking about. At the same time, Mr. Tipler (I guess?) stands at the front desk and is the first person you meet; he is not a super inviting person. Don't take that the wrong way. Once he starts talking he is really nice; but don't expect him to start the conversation.

I was hoping that they would have a large collection of lamps in varying styles and budgets, but it's more of a high-end antique shop. Most lamps that I saw cost well over $100, which is fine, but don't go here thinking you're going to find a cheap lamp for your Ikea desk.

Fast repairs, the showroom is almost like a museum. Great place to buy lamps, vases, etc. from many eras.
As far as lamp service and repair, every one of my clients that has used them is a loyal fan of Tipler's. They swear by the quality and timeliness of the service they receive. On top of that, I have never had them tell me that they couldn't repair something.
The prices can be expensive depending on what you buy. I recently went in a bought 1 brass collar and nipple and 1 round flat canopy and the total came to $44. They were really high quality items and I was very satisfied with the service but I walked out of there trying to imagine how a couple parts could be that expensive.
