Our room was quite small and dank with windows looking at nothing.

Absolutely loved this hotel. The vintage room was comfortable, quiet and very well appointed. The hotel bar makes a great meeting place and the cafe was very convenient. The overall feel of the lobby is worth the experience and the rooms are just as nice. The hotel has a classic heritage touch without feeling old or outdated.

I used to love staying at the historic Driskill Hotel. It was luxurious and romantic. Now that Hyatt has taken over the hotel it is not the same. They seem to be cutting corners to the detriment of the guest's experience. There used to be small fridges in the rooms which have now been replaced by expensive mini bar set ups. The restaurant wine list, which was amazing, has diminished to a handful of pages with limited selections. Maybe they're in transition, but I was extremely disappointed with my recent visit. Too bad, it was such a great historical hotel.

They charge $100.00 for a pet stay and upon check-in discovered they do not have a relief area and was sent about 8 blocks away to the Capitol grounds, being panhandled all the way up and back. They do have a very strict cancellation policy which I must admit they handled properly and cancelled our second night and gave us a credit back, but I do not consider the Driskill to be a "Pet Friendly" hotel as they don't cover the full needs for a pet. A cookie from the bakery just doesn't cut it.

The Driskill Bar is like no other in Austin. It is beautiful and exudes Texas tradition and history. The vibe is not old and crusty, but Texas charm. My favorite part of the bar is on the bar itself. Those beautiful spur lamps.. gorgeous!!! The Longhorn head always makes me smile and the musical entertainment is always good! Austin is lucky to have The Driskill Bar!!!

Don't get me wrong this is a nice hotel (Lobby, Bar, & Service) with a few exceptions. We travel with a small dog and I always make it a point to make reservations directly with the hotel and ask if they have a pet relief area on the hotel grounds as I did this time and was assured they did.

We had a wonderful visit to Austin at this beautiful, charming, and historic hotel located at the center of the action (great food and music, plus historical museums) downtown. For a high-end base of operations in Austin, this can't be beat. At the very least, visit the hotel for a drink or great dinner (plus truly great music in the bar) and enjoy the beautiful, Western decor.

Bathroom was very small with a sink and faucet you could barely get your hands under. A Hyatt property should do better than this!
