Best water. While in the pool there are fishes and the water is very slippery. Take caution though, as it is very cold and when I jumped in was just wondering "How in the world is it this cold!?". The pool itself is quite slippery, be careful when you go in! When I went in, I immediately slipped. The floor is covered with algae (Thus, making the pool natural), and the algae is quite slippery. It may feel a bit weird to the feet but you will get used to it. I recommmend going for the paid area since all the water from the paid area gets thrown down to the public area. I saw multiple dogs on the other pool just playing there. Who knows how dirty are they? Anyway they don't allow foods or drinks in the paid area but they do for the free area. Anyways it is just $5 so I'm better of buying a ticket for the paid area. Oh, and if you are planning to walk on a rocky area, BRING SLIPPERS! It ia torturw to you're feet for stepping on rocks. Other than that though, this is an amazing place to visit.
The south gate is where they held the barbarians longest. Blessed be their souls, and may the world never forget what they gave for this pool.
It's Barton go there. In most cases the line is shorter than the main gate.
Quite an interesting place, on a summer afternoon good place to spend couple of hours and cool your self
The South Gate is the free part of Barton Springs. You don't go in the actual gate, so the navigation won't really help you get in. Follow the fence away from the actual paying gate and you will find the free version of Barton Springs where you can have your dog run free with you. There was an area shallow enough for my best young puppy to reach the ground so she could still enjoy and area deep enough for me to swim as a fairly tall girl. I would recommend water shoes if you aren't acclimated with rocks shifting under your feet. Other than that, great people and a great atmosphere for people and furry friends.
