With high volume and rapid sales comes reduced quality. This is unfortunate, since good barbecue takes time and care to cook and trim. Think twice about ordering quick serve barbecue at beyon full service prices.
We are longtime fans of the original Salt Lick location, so were thrilled to see a location at the Austin airport (and without a 2 hour wait).
Came during a peak period but wait was minimal. Food just as good as the original Salt Lick. Try their Tacos at the Taco Cart across from Gate 10. Only place Salt Lick sells pulled chicken. Heavenly! Get them every trip, coming and going.
I‘m from Austin and this is the best food in the airport. Any smart person knows it’s worth a small wait to get your food here. Also don’t order BBQ and then complain that it’s fatty. You can always ask for lean cuts when you order.
We grabbed a couple of to-go sandwich combos for $34.00 (typical airport prices).
I'd recommend going to their brick and mortar location instead of the airport one, but hey... If you at the airport. Enjoy
The airport salt lick is one of the best food options in the airport. The prices are pretty decent for BBQ compared some other BBQ joints in town.
Opened my sliced brisket sandwich on the plane to discover that fully one-half of it was pure fat between bread. The half that was actually meat was good, but I was beyond disappointed that I paid $8+ for fat. I had to throw away half of my sandwich.
Good food. Tired but hard working crew served me drinks and awesome barbecue even though they were at the end of their shifts. Very nice people and delicious food. Texas at it's best.
