I am very unhappy with their customer service, and storage fees at Electric Avenue Scooters. The repair quote to fix the brakes was high enough that I questioned the logic of having the full extent of Marks repair recommendations done, because the value of our scooter didn’t justify the expense. Therefore, I asked Mark very specifically to apply ½ an hour of additional labor into making best efforts to clean the parts, and I clearly told him I would take a chance on whatever the outcome was. Unfortunately, he put 1 ½ hours into the work. I specially asked him to do a ½ hour because I wanted to minimize additional charges beyond the deposit. I did not see the wisdom in putting 1 ½ hours based on his original diagnosis. Again, I clearly told Mark I would take my chances on whatever the outcome was. The 1 ½ hours appears to have been a total waste of money and time. He and Audrey should not have charged me for the extra hour, and to add insult to the situation, as I tried to express my dissatisfaction, storage fees were “gently” brought into the conversation and added to my bill. In my opinion this was a very poor representation of customer service so we picked up out scooter in a disassembled state. I prefer to give my money to a company that is willing to take responsibilities for the decisions they make.
I chose Electric Avenue Scooters to take my MSF Basic course. I am so glad I did. I went in to talk to them, and they were kind and friendly, and I signed up for a class in 3 weeks. I was stressed out about learning, but I pushed myself despite coming down with bronchitis right after signing up. The class started, and I was immediately impressed with the instructor, Choon. He was professional, friendly and made everyone comfortable. When we started out on the range, he made sure we were comfortable with our choice of motorcycle or scooter. He began slowly, and eased everyone into their comfort level. Each exercise pushed us a little further, we were coached in areas we needed to work on, and encouraged throughout. By the time we reached the test at the end, we all did well and passed. My stress level was high at the start, as I'd taken the class several years ago from someone who shouldn't have been teaching dogs, let alone people. I would recommend this experience to anyone who feels the slightest trepidation about riding. I'm definitely ready to get on my Ridley and continue practicing the skills I learned. Great job Electric Avenue, and many thanks to Choon!
In one case they actually sold a scooter on consignment for me without bothering to see whether I would except the price! I felt like it was(for the record I would have rejected it)
In another case there guy took my keys from me. And two days later is said if I did not come over to pick up my scooter they would "dispose" of it.
Update: The problem was no a lack of wanting to do the paperwork. The problem was a changed deal when i showed up with the bike to do the paperwork. The employee took the bike and the next day they said they needed to charge me for an assessment and storage. None of this was mentioned when I dropped the keys off/ they accepted the keys. The part that cased me to question the ethics of the place was when I was told come get it now (24 hours after I dropped it off) or we will "dispose" of it. Hard to do when on a business trip in Chicago...
I have had two electric scooters. In both cases they were good scooters, But my dealings with electric Avenue had been confusing at best.
Very fun experience getting to test out their bikes and scooters! The staff is really friendly, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic! They offered us a lot of help and we hope to be back soon!
That cute little couple that runs The place are peculiar at best and dishonest at worst. They have their own way of doing things and we'll tell you about their "procedures" (which is a code word for charges) after-the-fact.
The bottom line is this.
I drove from Houston to look at ebikes here recently. The owners were friendly, knowledgeable, and, especially, patient. They spent a couple of hours with me, encouraging me to ride all their bikes, and Mark showed me how to adjust the gears on an internally-geared hub. In the end, I bought the bike that was at the top of my shortlist, based on reviews. It was a pleasant experience. Mark knows his science fiction, too.
You are buying a rather expensive item from these people. Perhaps I'm flaky or perhaps they are flaky. But you cannot get that expensive items serviced by anybody else in town. Buyer beware.
