Great bike shop. I have brought in my bike for repairs 5-10 times. Every time, the mechanics have been friendly and knowledgeable, and have done the job quickly and professionally. The shop has a nice little coffee shop and sponsors a lot of group rides. The store also has a good stock of road bikes and helped my wife find the right bike and fit. Highly recommend Mellow Johnny's.
Since I have young kids now, I wanted to find something that I could use to head out with a group ride, and also still be easily able to ride with my kids around the block.
All in all, this was a great experience, and David was a phenomenal representative to help me get my questions answered. I am still doing some research on which exact model I want.
My wife and I just returned from an amazing holiday in Austin and an even better visit to Mellow Johnny’s bike shop. We had rented bikes from Peter in rentals who I have to say was top notch in customer service. He had our bikes all ready and even showed us some great places to ride by pointing out on a map in his work area. The store itself was fully stocked with everything you need and is huge! In fact, it’s like a store / museum with all the amazing Lance Armstrong bikes and jerseys along with other riders paraphernalia. Standing under the 7 yellow Tour win jerseys was stunning for the huge Lance fan that I am. So needless to say, we will be back and looking forward to seeing David, Todd and all the other professional staff members who treated us so nicely at Mellow Johnny’s. Oh and don’t forget the Juan Pelota Café, they make amazing coffee’s …
I had TONS of questions about frames, components, fitting, etc. David answered all of them and totally helped me figure out what makes sense for me.
Went back today to request a refund and I met one of the worst managers i have had the displeasure of running into. He was rude, would constantly try to interrupt me, and if all else failed he would try to brush my complaints aside by saying I did not know what I was talking about. Once was the conversation about the refund began, he tried telling me I had "Lost my right to a refund because he had read my poor review". As if leaving a poor review revoked anyone's right to a refund. After a discussion and some questioning by the rude manager, I was able to receive a partial refund, which was fair as they did replace a few parts. Other than that this was one of the worst treatments i have received at a bike shop, and i lament any poor soul who unknowingly takes their business there. My advice for future customers is BUYER BEWARE, and do not let the rude manager bully you out of what is your right, with or without a bad review.
I used to be very into road cycling about 8 years ago. I wanted to get back into it, and visited this shop to look at some bikes. David helped me out on Saturday, and he was AWESOME.
I took my bike in to get a general tune up. I was grossly overcharged, and since then i have had to take my bike back 3 times, and they never actually solved any of the problems, all while giving me false information (they told me they could not tighten my brakes because of some made up reason, and a buddy of mine who works at another bike shop said they were taking me for a ride). It has been a week since i last took my bike in and the same problems are showing up again.... I'm going back tomorrow to complain, the service was horrible, especially considering the price. The only recommendation i could give to anyone asking about this shop is to stay away.I really do not see how they have a good rating.
My husband and I recently visited Mellow Johnny's in beautiful downtown Austin. We are both huge fans of Lance Armstrong, who has continued to inspire us in our cycling. His bike shop was a place we both wanted to visit. We booked rental bikes prior to our departure, which went so smoothly. When we arrived in Austin, we couldn't wait for the following morning for the shop to open. Simply put, everything about this shop far exceeded our expectations. The shop is filled with Lance memorabilia, including his 7 yellow jerseys. It was a goosebumps moment, to be sure. Every single staff member who we encountered was polite, friendly, and knowledgeable. In particular, I want to especially thank Peter (in rentals, sorry about the 2 flats!!), David, and Todd for making our time in Mellow Johnny's a very special memory. We will definitely be back. For those who are travelling to the store, I strongly recommend taking one of their Saturday morning group bike rides. We were treated to so many great conversations with our group and a beautiful tour of the city, including the Lance Armstrong bike path. Another goosebump moment! To Lance Armstrong himself, thank you for creating a store that encourages cycling. The mark that you have made on your hometown is very apparent... thank you for your inspiration!!
The bike shop itself is great. They let you take out the bikes for a test ride and this is a perfect location for that. You can head down 4th st, over a wooden bridge, and then take the bike down to lady bird lake path.
EDIT:
And if you are reading this, rude manager, I hope you learn a little bit about customer service, and work on your people skills. They repel any customer with decent common sense and self respect.
