Loving, open environment
This is a peaceful place to escape to for meditation. I started attending meditation classes six years ago and it has really changed my life. The resident teacher is excellent and the center offers many opportunities to learn about Buddhism and how to meditate.
What I like about this center is that the teachers are very well trained and there are different levels of classes. I was interested in studying buddhism in a more in depth, systematic way, and you can take book study classes (foundation program classes) where you go through topics step by step, have discussions and can ask questions. This really helped me to get a lot farther and dispel some confusion I had about buddhism. Community members are also warm and genuine.
This Center is a wonderful place to understand meditation. Having no experience in meditation, I found the teachings clear and simple. The resident teacher makes the teachings so accessible. A great place to begin or deepen your meditation practice. I found this Buddhist Center through the University of Texas informal Buddhism Class.
When I decided to return to Buddhist studies and practice, I went online to search for a center and was pleased to find one in my neighborhood. Of all the centers listed in my online search, I was also looking for one that follows the Mahayana path, and so the Chittamani Center was the one for me. And I have not been disappointed. I love being part of a small center where I don't feel like I get lost in the crowd. The head teacher is knowledgeable and very approachable. There are a number of classes of varying levels. I love the Foundation Program where, for the first time, I have the opportunity to study and discuss Buddhist texts in detail. The texts we study, written by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, are so clear and easy to follow to create a strong practice and assist in your spiritual progress. I have also found the members of the center to be very welcoming, caring and supportive. This is also a first time experience for me of really being part of a Buddhist community. Anyone who wants to visit is most welcome. looking forward to meeting you.
