How lucky are we to have a stellar school for children with the gift of dyslexia in Austin, Texas! The staff at Rawson Saunders works to meet the highest academic standards and genuinely cares for the children as well. The 1:8 teacher to student ratio is a critical element that leads the students to academic success. So many people (1 in 5) have dyslexia but so few have the opportunity for an education tailored to their particular needs. Our family is thankful every day to have this school in our lives.
I loved this school and was sad when I had to live. I would not trad this experience for anything in the world.
The largest challenge I have ever overcome by far is my dyslexia. When I was in first grade I was diagnosed with dyslexia, and in the beginning of first grade I was doing just fine. I wasn't behind anyone in my class, but halfway through second grade it turned from learning to read to reading to learn and it was like I hit a brick wall everything required reading including math, science, history, and even art, In one month I went from an A student to a C average. I would come home crying everyday because I just couldn't do the work and I was being ostracized for not being able to read or write. This went on for about two years I would have suicidal thoughts in third and fourth grade because I knew I would not be able to function in society without knowing how to read. But if fourth grade I saw an escape from the nightmare I called a life and that escape was called Rawson Saunders. At Rawson Saunders they had a class where you would learn to read in a way that makes more sense to dyslexics. Over the course of four years I painstakingly made minuscule progress on my ability to read and write but in seventh grade I was finally able to read and write well enough so that I could go on to bigger and greater things. Without Rawson Saunders I would not be where I am today.
