The staff is great. They are loving, caring, amd gentle. Dr.Brandt took his time with me to explain everything from A to Z. You can tell that he cares about his animal patients and their human parent. They took us in during an emergency when no other place would. This is definitely our new vet from now on.

Sometimes, I call to schedule an appointment and it will have to happen a couple days in the future (due to my schedule and their availability) but most of what time we are able to get seen on the same day. No biggie, but I saw another reviewer mention there is sometimes a WAIT when you arrive at the clinic, but I haven’t found this to be any more of a wait than I have experienced at other clinics, and if you’re kind and understanding about the wait times, they sometimes apologize with freebies. :-)

I highly recommend!

Feb 2016- a male finch with a broken leg was given to us; Dr Lusk performed his surgery, did a phenomenal job on the amputation, but finch did not wake up from surgery. Lusk kindly discounted much of the surgery charge, since the bird didn’t make it.

Great clinic. Dr. Brandt takes time to talk to you, listens and is thorough.

Cannot support a veterinarian that is afraid of a barking scared black lab. Was told to leave that they couldn't see my dog because she was barking too much. The good part is I went back to my old vet and realized that I was being completely ripped off by their charges Westgate Pet and Bird!!! Not only was the vet that saw my dog much nicer, prepared, and empathetic to an injured animal, they also were 3 times cheaper for ALL services rendered. Thank goodness they wouldn't see my barking dog, I won out on that one big time! My dog is fine, completely vaccinated, bandaged and has two prescriptions for just over $100!

Dr Brandt is always my first choice, but I’ll choose any doctor at this clinic over any other place. From new bird check-ups, surgeries, and euthanasia, they are always kind and compassionate.

Today, Oct 2017- We just returned home from having a senior finch euthanized, after she presented with an abdominal mass over the weekend. The clinic was very sympathetic to our loss, did a quick exam to minimize stress on a bird that wasn’t used to being handled, and gave me two options for her euthanasia so I could choose what was best and the least stressing to her.

Westgate Pet and Bird Hospital was my first and last stop in choosing a veterinarian for my 30+ birds. Let me be clear—WPBH is not the only avian clinic in the area that I have visited! They were the first bird vet I saw in 2011, then I went and saw all the good ones in Austin/surrounding, and I keep coming back here.

Our favorite Bird Vet!

We love WPBH, and A Parront’s Love Small Bird Rescue doesn’t plan to see another clinic anytime soon. We see this clinic often, and without hesitation.

The office staff are friendly and efficient.

Feb 2017- a budgie/parakeet with a bitten foot was surrendered to the rescue and needed surgery to repair. Dr Brandt evaluated and decided to try to save the foot rather than perform amputation of whole leg. Surgery and recovery went wonderful.

I WILL NEVER GO TO OR RECOMMEND THIS VET NOW THAT I KNOW THAT.

This is in reference to a visit for my parrots... left my birds bleeding and with severe scars. Did not finiah clipping nails, stated it was too difficult. That's fine, but when I called told me they had a specialist and he said he did not treat birds when visit was coming to end. My birds are very well tamed by strangers so it was just inexperience. I don't completely blame the vet, but more the front staff please do not lie to gain business, my birds could have been injured worse and after this visit are quite traumatized.

Don't do it, you will be overcharged for even minimal services there. Plus if your dog is barking or scared you might just waste an hour of your day only to be sold an over priced sedative so they can see your dog at a different time. No thanks!

Here are just a few recent cases I’ve brought to them:

June 2016- our brain-damaged Quaker Parrot presented with a slight tic (minor seizure activity) every 15 seconds, and it did not pass on its own. We attempted to go to Feather & Fur since they are closer to our home, but they turned us away when we walked in (despite me calling them beforehand and getting the OK to come in). Dr Lusk at WPBH saw us immediately, and dosed Valium/diazepam twice and seizure activity stopped. We did pay an emergency visit fee, but Lusk was very kind and understanding of us throwing a wrench in his evening schedule.
