Well on Wednesday the 5th I decided I had better call to get details as to her pre-surgery care so she would be prepared since I had not received so much as an email. A rude woman named Robin answered the phone and was all huffy as to the fact they had never seen her, that they had been trying to contact me, that they did not have her records. I informed this Robin that I not only had a cell, I had a land line and the cell records all calls it received and there were none from that office. The only calls were on the land line when I arrived home on Wednesday the 5th of July. One call was from Dr. Davis asking about my dogs health, one from someone to tell me about her care before surgery and one from someone after I spoke to Rude Robin. Rude Robin was acting like there was never an estimate given and when I told her not only was it given, I had called to clarify and I had a copy. She then changed her tune to the line that there was an error and they had not allotted enough time. The time allotted was exactly the same as 2 other estimates and I informed her the cost was not negotiable as it was given by their office for exactly what the cat needed. She said they would contact me with a new estimate. I received a call from some woman named Mel or Melvin, she was trying to explain how this Dr. Davis and Robin had now decided that the surgery would take almost another hundred minutes and the cost was now over $1900 on the low end and almost $3000 on the high end. More than the eye specialist. While laughable, this is totally unethical and was not accepted. A call will be placed to the Texas Veterinary Board and a complaint will be filed. Regardless of the reason, whether the clinic is in bankruptcy and in need of funds or just out of control with the "if you can raise $2000, you can certainly raise $3000" attitude, it is still unethical to not call before to discuss your stupidity and more so on the night before the scheduled surgery. Keep Rude Robin as we will not be there. At this stage, even if the doctor sees the error of her ways, the idea of this Robin aiding in the surgery is unacceptable as she seems to be unstable and I like the cat too much to risk her being abused at the hands of this individual.
After I compared the costs to the other 2 estimates, I made the appointment for July 6th.
I was at this vet for my dog and asked them if they could also do surgery on cats eyes. I was told yes. I relayed the entire history as to the cat having to have her eyes removed as they were diseased and the technician gave me a quote for the most down to the least cost. I called back to inquire as to pain medications, the collar, etc and they added an exam for $53.00, $6 for a collar and told me the high end was now $1972.
