This is the treatment people get when they come here for help?
My mother-in-law was seen there today because she had an allergic reaction to her bp med. She has a history of hypertension..CVA...and TIA among other things. She presented c/o visual disturbances in addition to itching amd was extremely anxious. My sister-in-law was concerned about her bp because she has been symptomatic with mildy elevated bp values. She was told that "we have seen patients with higher values and they're ok. When I asked her to have staff check bp manually, (because my mother-in-laws arm is large) she was told that "it wouldn't make a difference because the machines are correct anyway." I understand that in the ER, patients are stabilized and then encouraged to followup with their PCP but as a healthcare professional I find it very unprofessional for a physician to advise a patient to "not be in the ER long because of the cost". As a nurse, I am concerned with the lack of care and compassion displayed for my mother in law during her visit. She is fairly new to the Austin area and her trip to the ER is disheartening to say the least. Hospitals are in the BUSINESS of taking care of people. Customer service and effective communication are essential.
Went to this ER after fainting and experiencing severe abdominal pain, cold sweats and hyperventilating. They drew blood and ran several tests including an EKG. They couldn't find anything wrong with me so discharged me within 2 hours of my arrival time with a prescription for anti nausea medication. The bill was $10,200! Thankfully my insurance covered $8K and they let me pay the balance in installments. But then, months later I received a notice from a creditor for a completely different medical provider for over $1K supposedly related to this same ER visit. I had never received this bill before so I called the number on the notice and was told they submitted the bill to my insurance and it was not paid so they reported it to collections without even notifying me and while I was making payments on the ER balance. So this two-hour ER visit cost nearly $12K and did absolutely nothing to help me. Meanwhile, I keep making the monthly payments, but continue receiving written demands for full payment in the mail over and over and over. it's such a waste of money to keep sending me notices when I'm paying as agreed. No wonder it costs so much to visit this ER. Their postage expenses alone are probably astronomical!
Hilariously every time I try to call them and complain they hang up on me.
Took my mom to get surgery for her uterus and ovaries. She came out of surgery early which was a good sign. But she was stuck in the recovery room for 5 hours in total! They kept saying the hospital was booked. Why are we paying for a room just to have my mom stay in a small crowded curtained room. Not only that but the staff barely seemed to care. They said we might take 3-5 more hours until you can get a room for her. That's just ridiculous. Why have a surgery booked if there's no rooms for patients? Then my mother complained of nausea. We called for a nurse and they said we don't know what to do just call someone on the phone and that should get you help. How does the nurse not know what to do? And how are we supposed to know who to call? Luckily we guessed it right by looking around the room. Then the nurse took ages to come help my chocking nauseated mother. I'm utterly disappointed at this staff. I went to several other hospitals for my dad needing to have surgery. They took care of him right away. Even cared for us when we didn't even ask. If you're going to be in the medical field. Please care for the patients and their family/friends. They're worried enough!
I am writing this review 1 year after being in the ER and getting turned away 3 times saying I just had a bloody nose... The real issue was that I was bleeding from an area in the nasal passage that wasn't touchable, But no one would listen to me, ending up with emergency Surgery to fix the hole via The Specials Team, CHEERS to them!! I had thrown up and swallowed so much blood. The point I am trying to make is Listen to the Patients, you're ratings would be better. ** Now, to the Transplant Department I give 5 STARS to, but I am frightened to go back to that ER.
Complete with a way too eager security guard playing intimidation games. You know the type: overweight, self important, constantly blocking you and trying to stop your movement. Like he was trying to get me to touch him so he could start bouncing my head off the walls.
Told them to hold off signing me in because I wanted to check with my insurance how I would be covered and to see if I could afford it. They instead signed me in anyway and when I decided that I'd rather not they refused to let me leave without signing a waiver for the thing I explicitly told them not to do. Apparently I'm going to be charged for this.
